Concept
Uncommon from the start, this wine is unusual for being made from a single indigenous Portuguese grape called Viosinho as opposed to a blend of grapes as is more common in the Douro region.
This is because the winemaker, Jorge Lourenço, is intent on showcasing to the world the incredible potential of each of the Portuguese grapes that are common to his home in the Douro Superior while at the same time being conscious of preserving the winemaking traditions that have defined the appellation for centuries.
Viosinho is a dwindling treasure of northern Portugal because of its typically low yields, however, this wine unequivocally illustrates the grape’s incredible potential.
It is delicate and citrusy with an underlying florality and minerality that changes as the wine develops in the glass. Textural creaminess from a partial bâttonage in French oak barrels gives the wine complexity and makes it a joy to pair with a vast variety of cuisines.
