Concept
This traditional-method sparkling wine comes from one of the only regions of the world outside of Champagne that enjoys a marginal cool climate and ancient limestone soils: Bairrada on the central coast of Portugal. These conditions provide the potential for sparkling wines that exhibit a deep level of minerality, palate-cleansing acidity, and balance. The wine, which undergoes secondary fermentation in bottles for two years before being disgorged and released, offers notes of apricot and orange peel with a light biscuit toastiness that ties these flavors together. This brut sparkling carries the nickname of the winemaker’s daughter, Falala, which underlines the small size and familiar nature of the winery and the extent to which the winemaker, Rui Lucas, is concerned with carrying on the legacy of his family of winemakers and preserving the heritage vineyards of his region.
